Featured Speaker for July 30th

Jennie Coppit
District 7620 Membership Chair
Using the My Rotary and DACdb CRM systems as a way to grow Club membership.

This week we are hosting our District 7620 Membership Committee Chair Jennie Coppit.
Jennie Coppit is a charter member of the Rotary Club of New Market in Frederick, Maryland.  She has served as the Vice President, President-Elect, and President of the Rotary Club of Southern Frederick.  Currently, she serves as the District 7620 Membership Chair and is responsible for the care and keeping of 59 clubs and over 2000 members in the central Maryland and metro-DC area.  While President of her club, Jennie was able to grow membership by 40% by starting a Satellite Club and recruiting women who were done volunteering at their kids' schools and young professionals as they came home from college after graduating.  As the District Membership Chair, Jennie has been applauded by Rotary International leadership for her work in successfully using the My Rotary and DACdb CRM systems as a way to grow membership. Worldwide, RI has a close rate of about 5% on leads they generate and send to clubs.  District 7620 has a close rate of almost 40%.  Jennie has served multiple roles in her professional career in the Y movement to include Executive Director where she grew membership in her branch by almost 40%. She has recently been tapped to tackle her association's strategic plan to further develop programs and services for Seniors in Frederick County.  It is her goal to go beyond the water exercise classes and monthly luncheons one often finds to be Senior programming by offering intergenerational programming; technology training that is vital during these times; and programs in the arts and humanities, the sciences, mental health, safety, and cooking.  Jennie feels that the Y's mission to develop programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all melds perfectly with Rotary's areas of focus and the Four-Way Test. You are welcome to reach out to her at rotariancoppit@gmail.com or at 301-305-2977. You can also find her on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Don't Miss Our January 17th Speaker!

Don't miss speaker next week, January 17! It will be our own Bob Martin!

You’ll learn about the GLOBAL re-VISION Network I started back in 2002. It continues to this day, thanks in great measure to substantial support from our Club’s Foundation.

Since our first clinic opened in 2007, and at no cost to them, we’ve enabled between 100,000 and 200,000 people in the U.S., Mexico, and Haiti to regain clear eyesight. Our amazing technology makes it possible to accurately determine-and-fill eyeglasses prescriptions using donated, recycled eyeglasses in just a few minutes per patient.

I will talk about the enormous and unmet “need” for eyeglasses around the world. The statistics will surprise you! When I spoke to the club several years ago, I wanted to try and validate those statistics and invited Dr. Mary Frances Cotch, Chief of the Epidemiology Branch of the National Eye Institute at NIH to attend. After the meeting, she and I talked for a long time. What she said really surprised me!

She agreed with me that the estimated size of the world’s vision impairment problems (called uncorrected refractive errors) likely is 4 to 13 TIMES GREATER than organizations like the World Health Organization and others estimate it to be! The need for eyeglasses and corrected vision is a global public health problem of which few are aware. And, GLOBAL re-VISION is "fixing" it so easily! I'll show you how!

I hope you'll attend ... and since this is a project supported by our Club...please bring a friend and show'em what Rotarians do!

Bob Martin
